Directly after the well-known Dana to Petra section, the Petra to Wadi Rum Trek is one of the best sections of the Jordan Trail!
This multi-day hike connects the two incredible UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Petra and Wadi Rum. Between these sites is a long stretch of rugged wilderness in a high-elevation desert.
Get a true sense of the remote desert landscape by hiking through sandstone mountains, dry valleys, and flat sandy expanses.
Day 1: Petra – Hike from Petra to Gaa’ Mriebed – 24 km
Start Time: 7:45 am
The trail starts near the Bdoul village and down to the main tourist route, we’ll find yet another site, the Sabra Amphitheater.
Continue hiking south through the wadi, with some impressive views and mostly downhill until we arrive in an area called Ga’a Mriebed.

Day 2: Gaa’ Mriebed – Hike from Gaa’ Mriebed to Wadi Al Saif – 15 km
This day we will start off heading southwest before veering south. We’ll continue downhill through the wadi, surrounded by beautiful sandstone, rocky wadi beds, and local oleander plants.
We’ll take donkey tracks and footpaths through this large until reaching the much wider Wadi al-Saif. There we will reach a large boulder in front of a massive white and red sandstone cliff where we will camp for the night. On the top of the rock are old (Nabatean era) carvings of animals including camels, gazelles, and sheep.

Day 3: Wadi Al Saif – Hike from Wadi Al Saif to Wadi Gseib – 14 km
Today’s hike starts with some slight inclines and declines before descending steeply to join Wadi Mshazza. This route continues south through stunning wild desert mountains and desert valleys.
Today’s hike we’ll pass this cluster of mountains and head west towards our campsite in Wadi Gseib near the Jordan Valley.

Day 4: Wadi Gseib – Hike from Wadi Gsieb to Wadi Aheimar – 16 km
Today’s adventure is full of variety through a bit of a mountain gap. The route today will contain several gradual ascents and descents taking you to colored canyons and rock formations, beautiful vistas and fun sand dunes. A special day ending at a memorable campsite!

Day 5: Hike from Wadi Aheimar to Abbasiya – 25 km – Wadi Rum
Today’s hike heads mostly east from the Jordan Valley up the mountain to a plateau in the Wadi Rum area. We’ll face a gradual ascent throughout the day from around 400m to 1000m through a long Wadi combined with several narrow gorges with their varied rock formations and scattered vegetation.
Views open up once more as we journey towards the mountain plateau at 1000m and the Bedouin village of Abassiya. From there we take a vehicle transfer to the Wadi Rum Visitor’s Center.

Day 6: Wake up in Wadi Rum + 2-hour Jeep Tour
Today you will wake up in beautiful Wadi Rum. If you wake up early enough you can catch the picturesque sunrise over the sandstone mountains.
Breakfast is provided at the camp, and afterward, we will go on a 2-hour Jeep tour exploring the majestic sandstone canyons, and sand dunes of Wadi Rum. Standard checkout is around 11 am, and that is where this Mini Adventure ends.
